Much like our hometown Louisville (Looey-ville? Louis-ville? Loo-uh-vul?), many people have a hard time pronouncing and/or spelling our name correctly at first glance.
First, what does the name NoraeBar even mean? Noraebang is the Korean word for karaoke and loosely translates to “song-room”. The Japanese word karaoke also has a more literal translation which is “empty-orchestra”. Our company name is an homage to private room karaoke bars all over Asia and is simply a combination of noraebang and bar, since we are a karaoke bar with private song rooms.
We don’t use a space in “Norae Bar” since the original word is written as a single word. And even though NoreaBar looks more natural to english speakers, that would read more like KoreaBar.
As far as pronunciation goes, nor-ay-bar is the most accurate, although if you say no-ray-bar we’ll still know you are talking about us!
